Galoya National Park

Galoya National Park, located in the eastern region of Sri Lanka, is a spectacular wildlife sanctuary known for its rich biodiversity and tranquil surroundings. Established in 1993, this park spans over 15,000 hectares and is home to a variety of ecosystems, including dry forests, open grasslands, and picturesque lakes. The park's centerpiece, the Gal Oya Reservoir, offers stunning views and attracts a diverse array of wildlife.

One of the highlights of Galoya National Park is its population of elephants, which can often be seen roaming freely near the water's edge. The park is also home to a myriad of other wildlife, including leopards, deer, wild boar, and a wide range of bird species, making it a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The lush landscapes provide a serene backdrop for visitors looking to connect with nature away from the crowds.

Galoya National Park is unique in that it is one of the few places in Sri Lanka where visitors can take boat safaris on the reservoir, allowing for a different perspective on the park's wildlife. With fewer tourists compared to more famous parks, Galoya offers a peaceful and immersive experience in the heart of Sri Lanka’s natural beauty.
